Praying for the Lost

In today’s bible reading, we read the first 6 verses of 2 Corinthians 4. Verses 3-4 give us a very compelling reason to pray for the lost and gives us instruction on how to pray.

But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.  The New King James Version. (1982). (2 Co 4:2–4). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.

The Bible tells us that the god of this age has blinded the minds of those who do not believe. They are unable to see. A miracle is needed for those that are lost to be able to see. Their blinded minds must be opened to be able to see the light of the the “gospel of the the glory of Christ.”

The Holy Spirit must do a work in the heart of those that have been blinded by the enemy. He uses us to accomplish this in a couple of different ways.

The first way that God uses us is through prayer. The Lord has given us the privilege of praying for the lost to be saved. We should pray for people by name and should pray that the Lord would open their eyes to the gospel. The intercessory prayer ministry will have a list of people that we are praying that the Lord will reach. If you are a member of AFBC, I hope and pray that you will be a part of the intercessory prayer ministry. I challenge you to commit to pray for blinded minds to see the “gospel of the glory of Christ.” We will have an information meeting regarding the Intercessory Prayer Ministry on April 14 at 5:00pm.

The second way that God uses us is through being a witness. Being a witness is not complicated, nor do you have to have special training. Being a witness is simply telling what you have seen, heard, and experienced. If you have been Born Again, then you have a personal story of how God saved you. Share It! Tell It! Let it be known!

Too often we may pray and not tell, and sometimes we may tell and fail to pray. God help us when we do neither! I pray that will will take time to do both.

Father, help us to be a people that prays for others and lets our light shine so that You may be glorified!

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
The New King James Version. (1982). (Mt 5:16). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.
